Welcome back to the Promises of God Podcast, episode number 21. My name is Tracie Rollins. Thank you so much for spending time with me as we learn and take action on God’s promises in life. This month series is about grace, and we’re working out of the momentum devotional offered by Bible Journaling Ministries. It’s titled Saved by Grace, and you can learn more about Bible journaling with our free 10-day course set BibleJournalingMinistries.com. Today we’re wrapping up are saved by grace devotional with our last topic that God’s grace is ready when you are in our verse is Luke 15:32 and it says, but we had to celebrate and be glad because this brother of yours was dead and is alive again. He was lost and is found. This is from the parable of the lost son, and I’ll give you a little summary of it. I encourage you to read this section because I think it’s much better if you read it, but
He has no more money left. Um, he can’t even get you to know, the food that the pigs are eating. So he decides that he’s going to go home because dad has servants in the least servants can eat. So he figures he can go home and be a servant. So is coming back home and dad sees his son and is so excited that he’s home. He welcomes them with open arms, and he throws like the most significant celebration for him. He takes the fattest cow, and they have a party, and it’s just a fantastic thing. Is so excited that his son is home, but many of us would look at it and say, holy smokes, she spent all of your inheritance. She spent like half your appearance income, and now they’re going to come back and take care of you again.
You’re going to come back home. I don’t know about you, but I’m hoping once my kids fly the coop that they’re self-sufficient enough not to go home. Of course, you know, if they have a tough time, will come home, but they’ll be conditions. It’s not like they’re supposed to be self-sufficient men. That’s what I’m teaching them to be A. I don’t want them to live with me forever. I wanted to contribute to society, and I want them to do great things. I want them to do what God put them here on this earth to do, and I’m not giving them anything from my inheritance until I die, so I can’t imagine them coming to me now asking for half of it because I would tell him no, but here we’ve got this father that gives, gives, um, as inheritance away the kid squanders it comes back, and it has to live at home again. And he’s like, welcome him with open arms and so excited that he’s home. Isn’t that an Amazing example of grace? Well, I have that grace. I don’t know. I would hope to think that if my son were to squander all of my money away and needed to stay on my couch for a while, then I would walk them through it with grace. I would love to think that I would be that kind of person, but as I’m talking to you today, it’ll know that that’s the case because I look at this and I go, man, I’m not so sure I would have done that. I’m not so sure anymore. Even the son who had a brother that stayed with dad and was doing a lot of work and then he is like, oh, I can’t believe that you. You’re throwing a party for this guy.
So he kind of agrees with me in the whole parable is about Greece. So yeah, I have a lot to learn. As a Christian woman, I have a lot to learn about what it is to give grace and I think I’m pretty good at it, but man, I know I could do a lot better because I repairable these and I wonder could I do what this man did to his son I would hope that I could, but I can tell you today I’ve got a lot of growing to do and that is for sure. In fact, things like this will happen all the time, right There are friendships that are broken. There are marriages that are, that are broken, their families that are broken. There’s so much brokenness in our society. It happens all the time. In fact, I had a friend that had this husband and he was having a relationship with another woman and he was drinking and he was spending way more time playing video games and indulging in and eating out and entertainment and other things that were not family related.
He was doing this all on his own, and they couldn’t pay the bills anymore because he was spending all of his money on alcohol and dates with this other woman and he wasn’t spending time with his kids. He didn’t want to have anything to do with them. He was just living it up, and I couldn’t understand, but she stayed with him. When he was ready to come home, she was there. She did what I can’t fathom. I mean, how could anyone have that much gray. She had every right to leave. He was cheating on her, but she chose to stay, and she welcomed her last husband home, and the thing about it is this, God does this. Every time his child walks away. When you stray, he’s waiting. When he comes home, there’s a celebration. God doesn’t slam the door on you. His grace is overflowing, and he is ready to welcome you. When you’re ready to come home this week, take some time to think about what might be keeping you from coming home to God. Are you the lost sheep Is there something that you’ve done in your life that you’ve maybe squandered away or that is keeping you from, from a good relationship with God What is that Write it down and then take some time to think about what it is that’s holding you back.
Do you believe the parable of the lost son? Do you believe that God has the grace for you that this band had for his son? I sure hope that you do. God’s grace is amazing grace, and he is here, he’s ready when you are, so if today’s the day that you’re ready to receive salvation, I pray that you stopped this podcast right now and you pray to God, and you ask him into your heart, and you ask them to send the Holy Spirit in. You are transformed today. I pray that for you. If you know the love of God and you’re lost, and you feel like you can’t come home because you’ve done such horrible things, I pray that you’ll get down underneath, pray to him and ask for forgiveness today. He will accept you back. He loves you, and you’re not promised tomorrow, so don’t wait.
Don’t put this off. Romans 6:23 says, the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Jesus. Our Lord turned to him. Confess your sins and accept the love and the grace that it gives you every single day. God’s grace is like no other grace. It’s not matched by anything on earth. It’s not something that you earn. It’s not something that you can pay for. It is a free gift to his children and he loves you and wants to give it to you, and I hope that you will receive it today and feel the love of Christ Jesus that surpasses all understanding. Thank you so much for tuning in today and I’m excited about our next series, so I hope you will join us in the next episode of the promises of God. Goodbye.
